Fertilizer has special requirements to meter the coarser material, to meter higher rates and to contend with the corrosive nature of the material. Gandy has introduced a special hopper with these fertilizer criteria in mind.
The 2.3 cu. ft. (approx. 120-lb.) capacity hopper is made of sturdy polyethylene with a stainless steel housed metering system. The positive displacement design means that when the metering stops, all flow stops. And if the unit is ground driven, the metering compensates for the ground speed. The standard metering wheel is a nylon red metering wheel with a choice of two, three or four outlets per hopper. Packages with a yellow high volume wheel can dispense up to 1.6 times the red wheel. Some seeding may also be accomplished with this system, but the coarser tolerances prohibit some granular chemicals from being used.
For fertilizer volume, drop tubing is 1-1/2" I.D.
held to the spout by hose clamps. For certain seed
applications, optional inserts can be ordered to adapt the metering cup to .875-inch I.D. tubing.
The metering housing features a standard bolt-in agitator to assist in fertilizer flow, and a snap-tite clean-out plug is removed to drain material from the hopper when finished. Regular cleaning of the applicator after use is recommended to ensure long life and best working features of the hopper.
Reflective silver lid is held to hopper by sturdy bungee-style latches.
Bolt-in agitator can assist flow of material to the metering outlets. Clean-out plug sits below agitator. Housing, shafts and agitators are all stainless steel.
Additional equipment includes ground drive or electric motor drive, a sprocket set to adjust rate from input drive, connector drive tubes to connect hoppers mounted in line, and interchangeable metering wheels.
